Due to the snow days on Jan. 29 &30th, our stems quiz on list 10 will be Monday, February 3rd. In addition, students need to have a copy of the quarter three novel by Monday, February 3rd. Students will be reading The Greatest: Muhammad Ali by Walter Dean Myers. If students have a copy of Holes by Louis Sachar, they should also bring this to class; however, it is not required. Lastly, Embedded Assessment 2.2 will be due on Tuesday, February 11th. This assessment is different than those previous, and involves both an individual and group component. Students should be planning and meeting with classmates both inside and outside of class.

chapter 2)
Embedded Assessment 2.2 due Tuesday, February 11!
Some important information about EA 2.2:
-This project has two components: an individual and group piece
-Individually: students are to write a news article (not a script) of their anchor story, which is connected to a story we've read in class this year (for example, a main character could be interviewed). This should be 1.5 pages and double-spaced. They also must write an interview, which is acted out by their group members and video-taped; the interview is a script. This is outlined on their YELLOW pre-write sheets.
-Group: students are to create a video-taped newscast of all four anchor stories. All members are involved in each story, but as a different role each time (anchor, interviewee, reporter, director). This is outlined on their PINK pre-write sheets.
-Taping will take place Thursday & Friday, so please bring technology. If students do not finish in class, they need to meet outside of class.
-Students change roles for EACH member's story; therefore, a student cannot be the director for the entire newscast.
-Final copies of the story and newscast are due Tuesday, Feb. 11
-Students must also turn in three pre-write sheets:
-pink (group planning and brainstorming),
-yellow (individual planning for anchor story), and
-green (individual planning for director, interviewee, and reporter)
-if a student has lost these, they must print their own copies

What: What is an upcoming sporting event? The NFL Super Bowl XLVIII
Who: Who is playing in the Superbowl? The Broncos and Seahawks
When: When is this event taking place? February 2nd at 6:30
Where: Where will this game be taking place? The Metlife Stadium in New Jersey
Why: Why are people concerned about the game being held at Metlife? Because this is the first time the Superbowl has been held in a cold-weather city. People are concerned about the cold temperatures and possible inclement weather.
